Ireland

We took a quick trip this past weekend to see finally see a bit of Ireland.

Our pictures do not it justice, it was incredibly beautiful. Here we are at the Cliffs of Mohr.

Our friends from Chicago, the Gavins, were going to be in Ireland and we couldn't miss the chance to see them much less in Ireland!

Having dinner in Kinvara on our way back from the Cliffs of Mohr. It was a cozy little pub with a real wood burning fireplace and plenty of Guinness on tap.

The dads teaching the girls an important life lesson, how to belly up to the bar.

Izze and Mac enjoying having the run of the pub. Yes, Izze is that cute and Mac and I are both jealous of her gorgeous hair.

The girls freezing, but happy, after our climb to see the Cliffs of Mohr.

While it was overcast, cold and rainy most of the time, Mac thought she and dad needed some new shades.

We spent Saturday morning in Galway exploring Eyre square and enjoying all it had to offer.

Including the morning market with its' lovely produce.
Eating yummy, yummy crepes.

Mommy, I mean Mac, couldn't get enough of the Nutella one.

Though the spinach, feta, cheese and garlic butter variety was almost as heavenly.

We also explored Kylemore Abbey. It was sooo cold and windy that most of the grounds were closed. But we stopped inside long enough for Mac to catch a quick nap with Lion on an antique sofa.

Just some random shots:

Stopping near Doolin to examine some of the limestone landscape that is so prevelant in Ireland.

St. Nicholas church in Galway. It was bulit in 1320 and legend says Christopher Columbus heard mass here before setting off on his America discovering voyage.

Yes, Ireland is that Catholic!

Traditional Irish Stew. It was okay. I'm not a huge lamb fan so that took my rating down quite a bit. And the potatoes weren't as good I imagined them to be. You know, being Irish potatoes and all I was expecting fireworks or something.

Our teeny, tiny rental car. Believe it or not, this was a 'spacious upgrade'. Really though it had plenty of space for us and our stuff and I couldn't imagine being in a larger car on the narrow roads of Ireland.
Mackenzie was so excited to be riding in a car. She kept saying, "weeee!". That is until she got car sick and vomited on the way to the hotel. The next day she kept saying "woah, daddy, woah" and "tummy hurts". Luckily she didn't get sick again!

Some sheep for a stroll. Because the winding, twisty roads weren't enough of a challenge, we often encountered sheep, cows or horses in the road.

And the people walking along on the super narrow roads, walled in on both sides with rock fences must have had a death wish because it was almost impossible to see them in time.

This was actually taken on our way there. It was our first experience on budget airline RyanAir. They advertise super low fares and you pay extra to check in at the airport, be on the first to board, check luggage etc. We were expecting it to be somewhat dreadful but it wasn't bad at all.

It was a wonderful trip and we can't wait to go back. And we can't wait to see the Gavins again, whereever that may be!

Ooohh! It looks like you had a fab time! I definitely need to get to Ireland sometime. How nice that you got to meet up with your Chicago friends and it looks like Mac really enjoyed herself. Pretty little girl!

By the way, you can really tell you used your new camera. It is amazing the photo quality from a point & shoot. Good job!

Galway was one of my favorite stops when I was traveling in Ireland. Did you make it out to the Aran Islands?
