Madrid

More catch up.

In the spirit of trying to see as much as we can while here in London (and before Cheese arrives!) we took off for Madrid, Spain for the 3-day bank holiday weekend in late August. Our first choice was Barcelona but the prices to Madrid where much cheaper so to Madrid we went.

It was hot, hot, hot. But also fun, fun, fun. We did the hop-off/hop-on bus tour, visited a few city parks (and of course playgrounds), went to The Prado Museum, and strolled the Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor which were conviently located just steps from our hotel.

Speaking of hotel, that is lately Mac's favorite part of our travels. And this hotel had bunk beds! and a self-serve drinking fountain in the lobby! and a huge shower! Can you imagine such fun??

Here are a few photo highlights:

Gorgeous architecture

Plaza Mayor

The oldest restaurant in the world

One of several ice cream breaks

Jardin Botanico

Um, I can't remember! Some palace in a park. Beauitiful!

There were a couple Mickeys and Minnies roaming around the city much to Mac's delight and confusion.

One of Mac's favorite things, chorizo!

Royal Cathedral

Mac's lunch of choice, pickles and olives

And mine, SO. GOOD. Empanadas, cheese pastries, croquettes, YUM. We found this amazing market near our hotel with lots of this delicious food to sample so of course we had to go back several times. It's all about the food for me!

Churros con chocolate, none of us were actually too crazy about this for some strange reason.

Definitely would recommend Madrid. While we didn't get to watch any bull fighting or flamenco I would still say there are plenty of other, child friendly activities to enjoy in this charming, beauitul city.

Chris's comment was, "Who doesn't like chorizo?" You guys look like you're having so much fun. How was Ireland?
